I have XP Pro SP2 and know that I can set permissions for file access. Is it possible to set a folder to allow files to be written ONLY once? I'm happy for a Limited user to be able to create a file (Word, Excel, Notepad etc.) and then save it into the folder, but I want it to remain there and deny the user being able to delete or overwrite it. It can be read and edited, but the edited version must be saved back as a new filename rather than resaving as the same filename to overwrite the original. Someone with Admin rights would be permitted to delete the files from this folder.

Is this possible? It's rather like a one-way turnstile into a sports ground.

Thanks for your time.

CondorMan,

What you seek is normally available at the server & client in a "domain" environment. The referenced link specifies a work around if you are not part of a "domain", although I have not tried this.

Pay attention to the section on
Create Files/Write Data
The Create Files permission applies only to folders and allows or denies the user from creating files in the folder.

The Write Data permission applies only to files and allows or denies the user from making changes to the file and overwriting existing content by NTFS.

I think that the above is what you seek

How to set, view, change, or remove special permissions for files and folders in Windows XP

Hope this Helps
