I had backups running very good for a long time, but here recently, everything took at dive. System specs below:

Dell PowerVault 130T Tape Library w/ 4 Quantum DLT7000's
Adaptec AHA-2944UW PCI SCSI Controller
Adaptec AIC-786X PCI SCSI Controller
Dell PERC 2 Raid Controller
QLogic QLA2000/QLA2100 PCI Fibre Channel Adapter
Running BE9.0

-----

All jobs stopped running. I dont know what went haywire. The machine and everything is in a very secure facility so no one had access to tamper with it or infect it in any way. I'll just post up some messages and see what you guys can come up with...

-------

Adamm Mover Error: Read Failure!
Error = ERROR_CRC
Drive = "QUANTUM 3" {73A40D36-E781-4933-97D3-24AE5F1BA0EA}
Media = "" {00000006-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}
Read Mode: SingleBlock{0}. ScsiPass{0}
Write Mode: SingleBlock{1}. Scsipass{1}

----------

Backup Exec Alert: Tape Alert Error
{Server: "myservername") (Job: "Inventory") Job 'Inventory' has reported Multiple Tape Alerts on Server 'myservername'. Please refer to job log BEX0001.xml for more details.

---------
Adamm Mover Error: Unlock Device Failure!
Error = ERROR_IO_DEVICE
Drive = "Quantum 4"

etc

---------

The device, \Device\Scsi\aic78xx1, did not respond within the timeout period.

------

The device, \Device\Tape2, has a bad block

------

now.... All jobs that are ran, any tape it tries, it marks it as bad media.

What do I do? I've tried just about all I can think of as far as drivers.

Sounds like the tape drive to me. have you cleaned it? do you have another one you could try ? blonde

Yes, i've tried cleaning the drives since there are 4 total drives in the library. Nothing seems to work. I tried a TestRun, it actually showed a Byte Count. I then tried to do the Real run and it gets stuck on "Loading Media", but media is in the drive. The media is from the Scratch Media location as well which makes it useable. I'm just clueless on whats going on.

I am also receiving the "job has reported multiple tape alerts" error and I swapped the tape drive out with another and have had no luck. Did you end up solving this? If so I could really use a solution quickly if possible! Thanks.

You have a hardware issue. The tape alerts are generated by the tape device and passed to backup exec. From the looks above I thougth the drive 3 was bad, but I see its spanning to 4 , etc then you get the controller error.

Update all the firmware for the library, SCSI card, etc.
Contact Dell and have them run some diags on the server.
Try another SCSI card, terminator and cables.
