NW Server 7.2, Windows 2003 Server, HP MSL6000 tape library – last two days all operations with autochanger failed.
Today I tried to do reset, inventory, unload, label and everything failed.

I have found the record in the daemon.log where error occurred – here it is:
07/12/05 20:00:00 nsrd: savegroup info: starting LINUX (with 2 client(s))
07/12/05 20:00:01 nsrd: savegroup info: starting HPUX (with 2 client(s))
07/12/05 20:00:04 nsrd: media info: suggest mounting QGF517L2 on chelsea for writing to pool 'LINUX'
07/12/05 20:00:04 nsrd: media waiting event: Waiting for 1 writable volumes to backup pool 'LINUX' tape(s) on chelsea
07/12/05 20:00:04 nsrd: Jukebox 'ARSENAL' failed: No such file or directory
07/12/05 20:00:04 nsrd: Jukebox 'ARSENAL' failed: No such file or directory

After then all other groups (until now) are hanging up and the error is always same:
nsrd: Jukebox 'ARSENAL' failed: No such file or directory

I have restarted all server services, checked the licenses, but nothing helped.

As it stands in daemon.log the error occurred on July 7 in 8pm. It is interested that on July 7 in 7pm previous group (started in 6pm) finished OK (one client failed, but it doesn’t matter:
07/12/05 18:58:52 nsrd: savegroup alert: WINDOWS completed, total 16 client(s), 0 Hostname(s) Unresolved, 1 Failed, 15 Succeeded.

I can see that similar problems with nsrd are connected with media database and lot of people suggest to do some kind of media database consolidation, but I think that media db is OK here??

What could be the cause of this problem??

Additional info: I started nsrsup and found info for jukebox:
Command line: nsrjb -vV
setting verbosity level to `1'
nsrjb: Unable to open SJI device scsidev@12.0.0. Check device, connections and drivers.
nsrjb: SYSTEM error: No such file or directory

It seems it is hardware problem, isn't it??

S

Correct. It is at least hardware related. I guess the system lost its hardware configuration or it has itself reconfigured. So NW knows about his devices but it obviously can not find the OS device sny more.

- Is the RSM service still disabled?
- Can the Windows Manager see the hardware?
- What does "inquire -cl" report?
(Does of course depend on the Device Manager)

The hardware has been reconfigured.

Run the inquire command and compare the scsidev@b.t.l number for the library to the target path reported in the nwadmin GUI (right click the library --> edit)

Change the target path to match the one reported by the inquire command and save the change.
