All files in the network saved on Server? 1

Hi,
I'd like all the files that our employees use on our network to be stored on the server 2000 HD because it has Backup options ect....they all use WinXP.. Yes file sharing ect...But i dont want them to even use they're HD. I want all files being used to be on the server. Is there a way to enforce this.
Meaning, even if the employee trys to save an .xls to they're c drive, the XP machine won't allow it. All to a shared folder on the Win 2000 server machine that has been mapped and config'ed if you will.

HI,

There is one simple way to do that just don't give the users sufficient rights on the local PCs. That's it. Just give permissions to Appl and Temp folder so they can't able to save the files in their local drivs.

One more thing if you wanna save the data on the server then you will have to make the script for mapping the drives and give sufficient rights on the server to save the data.

Hello,

I think that you can do several things:
1. use GP to redirect Mydocuments users folder to a server.(if you have AD implemented)
2. use VERY restrictive NTFS permissions on users local HDD's. (all the necessary NTFS permissions are setted by default except that you must change root permissions from Everyone - FC to more restrictive.)

P.S.all the necessary NTFS permissions are setted by default ONLY if during initial OS installation you choosed NTFS. If you choosed FAT32 , then used convert.exe to convert it to NTFS - then Everyone -FC on all files/folders will be implemented. To change it use security templates)

Ok perfect thanks, and if I were to set up roaming user profiles, they would be able to open OE and it would be their email account settings right?
