Hello and thanks for any help.
Running Win XP. All of a sudden.. any cd or dvd i put in my DVD-WR drive appears blank. It will not read any disk. Strangley if i mount any of my disk images in Deamon tools they all appear blank as well. But I can burn blank disk in nero no problem! I have tried the obvious steps to me.. drivers, ide settings, system restore, delete reg keys concerning 'not seeing CD-rom in explorer', even though i can etc. Nothing has made any difference.
All CDs & DVDs appear as if blank in windows! Help please.

I would take the drive right out of the pc and boot the pc up, check dev mgr and delete the dvd burner from dev mgr and turn it off. Then re-install the dvd burner, make sure that windows sees it again.

Because you can burn, but cannot read, it seems like a hosed setting in the OS, or perhaps a software conflict on the PC.

In the past when helping others, I have found that the #1 culprit is a software disk image mounting app. Alcohol 120% is the most common app out there like this, that also burns images to CD. If you have this installed, remove and reboot. If you don't have it, uninstall any app that you use which mounts a volume to a drive letter.

Garebo's suggestion could also have an impact if the firmware in the drive was recently changed. Otherwise, it shouldn't make a difference...
