Some of our users access our network through VPN from home computers, which I have no direct control over (could be getting used by other family members)

They have Enterprise v8.0 on their machines, but I have no way of knowing if it is updating successfully. Is there anyway I can set them up so that the software will e-mail me if there is an update failure?

Thanks

If you have ePO deployed in your environment, you could get them to install the ePO Agent on those PCs. If they have 8.0 Enterprise and are getting the software from the company, then they should be required to install it on their home computers as well. If they don't want to install the agent, then they don't get access via VPN.

Then adjust your firewall rules accordingly to allow agent communications through the VPN. Then you can view the properties of those clients within ePO and see where they are at with DAT updates.

Thanks for the reply. We use protection pilot rather than epo, but I think it can be configured in the same way. I had a feeling that I could use it across a vpn link, but was looking for an easier way out - firewall rules aren't my speciality!

It should work across the VPN. I'm not the guy that configures the firewall rules here (thank goodness), but I know when users are connected using a VPN, their ePO Agents do report their status back to us.
