i have a message box that says thankyou. it is called like this - alert('thankyou');. the box has a little exclamation mark in a triangle, which i think makes it look more like a warning than a polite remark. is there anyway of creating a popup box that is a little friendlier?

Not really.

You can make DHTML widgets that look like alerts (for NN4+/IE4+).

You can use dialogs that are popup windows that feel more like alerts, but support is limited to a few browsers.

You can use popup windows, but these cause an unpleasant pause in MSIE (if many windows are open) and may be blocked by Moz/NS6/Safari or 3rd party tool.

Maybe you could just make it flash in the status bar or on the page somewhere so the user doesn't have to make an extra click.

you could show/hide an absolutely positioned div...but in IE you won't be able to show it on top of a <select> list
