Is there an AIX equivelant to nsswitch.conf where you give the order in which to resolve. i.e local then network.

monman,

/etc/netsvc.conf

hosts=local,bind4

N.B. always put local first and clear out /etc/hosts of anything you want DNS to resolve. If you do not put local first and DNS is down your box will hang on reboot with a 581.

The bind4 is because in AIX 4.3 and beyond, by default bind will request an IP V6 address and as no-one uses V6 we all use V4 then it resolves the address quicker.

Cheers
