Hi all

If this this is the wrong forum for this question, apologies in advance.

Have a Sony PCG-F801A onto which I would like to install a suitable version of linux.

Have tried a Ubunto boot disk, but the laptop does not recognise the bootable CD.

Any workarounds, please?

TIA

Check that in the Bios of the laptop, that your first boot device is CD-Rom, usually is is defaulted to Hard Drive or Floppy

Only the truly stupid believe they know everything.

Sympology

The first boot device is CD-Rom to enable system recovery etc. It also recognises Windows boot discs.

There isn't a floppy drive, but your second link might provide an answer.

Are you sure that Ubuntu disk is good? Will it boot on another machine?
