What kind of shutdown problem?
Does it do a shutdown but you get the question like "it's now safe to turn off your computer" or something similar to that?
If thats the case open the controlpanel and start "Power options" and there you search for "APM" and you enable it.
I'm not 100% sure about this but u can always try..
