Hi all,

I just did a jumpstart install of Solaris8 on 50 brand new Sunblade 2500's. Most (35 or so) loaded just fine and are now identical to our other workstations, but a few had a strange error. After the jumpstart install was complete and the box was booting for the first time using the internal disk the boot process stopped with a "Warning: Can't find drv\m1535ppm" and on the next line "Can't load root filesystem". And I'm stuck at the OK prompt, not really stuck I can issue commands from it, but I can't get the OS to boot. I had no other problems or errors except for this one and I can't find anything to help me figure out what the problem is. Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

Monitor out of pixels, I'll need to go grab a box and fill'r up.

d3funct;

I checked sunsolve on this. Looks like a bug issue to due with the m1535ppm driver. If you just bought these I would contact sun or your vendor. I would also check and make sure flashprom levels are the same between working one and issue system but that really won't clear up your issue.

Really did not see a patch for your issue but I did not look to deep. You could always try creating a finish script to install the latest recommended patches for Solaris 8.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. The strange thing to me is that 15 out of 50 were affected and they were all ordered and shipped and received at the same time, so I would've thought they either all had the problem or all did not have the problem. Strange....anyway, thanks for the help.

I think they did something to the hardware on the new 2500's. We ordered them when they first came out last year and I had few problems flashstarting them, but I resolved those. Then we ordered three more a few months ago and when I went to flashstart those they were not evening being picked up my rules. I usually have rules by specifying the model, but I had to change some of them for hostnames. You could try doing a flashstart, take one of the 2500's that's built and create an image of it.
