Advice on Oracle...

I have heard a lot about Oracle as of late. I know nothing about it and am interested in learning it. Can anyone advise me on some books to pick up or other sources of info? Thanks,

The one that got started with is called "A SQL Guide to Oracle". Though its a bit dated, it's an excellent technical primer and encompasses everything you need to get an great overview of the product, regardless of version.

I can't recall the authors name, however.

i'm studying for OCP. i want actual training. do i need to download the entire oracle database for that or there are smaller databases to be able to train? also where do i find those databases to train?

Begin by downloading Oracle 8i or 9i from

http://www.oracle.com.

Join OTN for online help.

I have been developing Oracle 7.3 and Oracle 8i for 6 months and OTN or TekTips forums answer all my questions.

If you want to use Java to develop Oracle then also join

Complete Oracle 9i Reference from Osborne is a good book. I also like the O'Reilly press books.

If you are familar with SQL Server or Access, Oracle may seem clunky and inconsistent. Get comforatable with the tools and use TOAD software.
