Hello,

I have Symantec ghost 7.5 which is able to change the SID on Windows 2000 etc.

I do not understand what the advantages would be of using sysprep as opposed to a straight image of the machine using ghost.

To confuse me even more, Ghost allows you to image a machine that has been "sysprepped"

Could someone please explain why I would choose one over the other?

Thanks,

Sysprep erases all hardware configuration from the hd. This is necessary when ghosting xp and also the reason you have to reactivate after you ghost an xp box. Sid changes the system id, you can run into problems w/ too many boxes having the same sid in a domain environment. Sysprep allows you to change the pc name, ip address, etc. You can even configure it to have the pc join a specific domaian. In short, you want to run both of these before ghosting a box.
