Is there a ADSL card for Cisco routers?

Ok, now I know there are ADSL Cards, does anyone know if the 2500 series router supports these cards and if I was to replace my ADSL modem with a 2500 series router w/ an ADSL card do I need to find out anything from my ISP first or should it be transparent to them once I have it configured?

The only fixed configuration ADSL routers are the lower-end ones such as the 827 or 837 routers. I say lower-end but compared to the 2500 series these are quite powerful routers. The 2500 series routers have no slots for inserting any modules so there is no option here. The next router up is the 1600 series where you could add a WIC-ADSL module. After this there is the 1700 series and 1800 series then you are into the bigger routers such as the 2600, 3600, 3700 & 3800.
As far as I know the only ADSL modules Cisco manufacture are the WIC-ADSL ones so with a 3600 or above you would need a module to install the WIC module in as well.

What are you trying to achieve?

The 1600 series doesn't support WIC-1 ADSL.

What I am trying to do is add a ADSL card to my external router. I currently have a t1 line into it and I would like the ADSL to be for failover/other tasks. Is the 2500 considered old and unpowerful? It seems to do the job for me. I can see where it could get bogged down due the jobs of a busy border router (Experienced it before). But the bottom line is I would like my external router to both have the ADSL line and T1 connected. Has any of you done this before?

Apologies about that, you are correct the 1700 series is the first of the modular routers to support the WIC-1ADSL module. Cisco Marketing Dept. must be smiling......

The problem with the 2500 series is there are no modular slots so where would you connect the ADSL line? If you already have an ADSL/Ethernet router provided with your ADSL service you could use a Dual Ethernet 2500 (2514 IIRC?) and connect the 'outside' interface to the ADSL/Ethernet router and the 'inside' interface to your LAN.

Yes but I only have 1 IP address for the Modem and then behind that is Natted. So I could in fact do it but Im not sure about the complications of having alternate routes added for my main Class C and then trying configure my modem to allow passthorugh may work. I havent tried it yet.

Does any body know if it is possible to get a DSL Modem that will only establish a connection so I can statically assign a interface on my router and IP address instead of the modem havin gthe address assigned?

if the DSL modem is in bridge mode... it will pass all everything though and basically just act as your bridge from the RJ11 to RJ45 (ATM to Ethernet)

so youll be able to assign the ip on your router.
