I've just installed this drive on the Secondary IDE Bus as a slave. Took some juggling with leads at first for it to show up as I was trying to use cable select. This didn't work, so I set the CD-ROM to Master and ADR2 to Slave, all fine. Managed making a backup in W2K3 server using MS Backup, very happy, all was fine, went about setting the schedules.

Next day I notice that the drive had vanished from Windows Hardware device manager, restarted computer, also not viewable in BIOS. I believe the Firmware on the ADR2 is 5.03, tried upgrading Firmware using IDEFlash, device shows as:

Inquiry: ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬

Flash Code Version: ....

I do actually get a some info in the bios, which shows:

Cylinder - 1024
Landing Zone - 1023

Can anybody help, Thanks.

1. What if you disconnect the cd drive and try both setting it to master and cable select, does it show on bootup?

2. What about moving it to a different system entirely?

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Yes, I have tried it in another system on Master, Slave and CS.

My guess is this drive is dead!!

Since you had to play with it to get it going the first time around, sure sounds that way. Sorry about that.
