Hi,
I was wondering if any of you could answer questions concerning Adobe Image Ready?

Each time I optimize a Jpeg file the size of that Jpeg gets larger. This doesn't make sense to me. What can I be doing wrong?

If there's a better forum for me to ask this question I'd appreciate it if someone could directe me there!

Thanks for your time.
Jenny

It happens a lot. Are you dialing down the quality.

To be honest. I get the best results selecting GIF and choosing 128 colors. If that washes it out too much then adjust it to 256. You will be amazed how little it affects the image.

Either way, changing the quality from 100% to 50-60% will make the JPG smaller. But by all means, dial it down as much as possible without adding too much dostortion.

Hope this helps! » » » » » »

Mike, if I may, I'd like to differ, regarding the use of Gif compression. Not only do Gif make bigger file size than Jpeg, but if you deal with a photograph, you will lose a lot of detail using Gif. However, Gif is great for most vector works, or any kind of solid color type graphs.

As far as Image ready recompressing "bigger", yes Jenny, it happens some times. And I have no idea why.
Have you tried switching back to Photoshop ("jump to" command) with your image and then back to IR to recreate your optimisation?

Patricia

Thanks guys,
pbb, What does the "Jump to" command do?

Jenny

Thanks Mike.
I always thought that .GIF files were smaller that .JPEG files?
Recently, I’ve been finding that my .JPEGs are smaller.

Jenny, you'll find the "jump to" command under
<File<jump to and then you choose Photoshop if you're in IR, or vice versa.

Good luck with your project

Patricia

Hey pbb (and others),
I don't have a "Jump to" command in my File menu. I'm using Photoshop 5.0, maybe that's why.
It's not an asset is it?

Thanks,
Jenny

Jenny,
You are probably right. It's been a long time since I've used Photoshop 5.0, but if I remember right in that version of PS, Image ready was a completely separate application, therefore you would not have the "jump to" command. So what you have to do with PS 5.0 is go from one app to the other (from PS to IR) and treat them as separate apps. But you can still achieve the same results as is you had the "jump to" command. It's just more practical to be able to "jump to" that's all.
Good luck Jenny
