I have a laptop for work. I have administrator rights but if I log on with my username and password I cannot install any software. I cannot even change the time on the clock.

If I log on as administrator, no password, local machine, no problem, I can do anything. I installed a piece of software but I can only use it as Administrtator.

I got one of the IT lads to try it. If he logged on with his username its exactly the same but if he logs on as administrator and his password then he has no problem.

It seems that you need to log on as Administrator with or without password to be able to do anything. If you log on as anything else then you can't do anything.

Any suggestions.

Is the account you are using to log on with in the local admins group?

when you log in as admin no password, right click on my computer, go to manage, then under system tools go to local users and groups, select groups, administrators, and see if your local accout is in the administrators group.

also, how did he log in as administrator with a password when you logged in as administrator without a password?

Computer Support, no not just hardware.. I support everything :)

He logged on to the domain with password, but I logged only to Local Machine.

But the problem seems to have sorted itself now. Thanks everyone.
