I used the elevated command prompt in W7 to activate the administrative rights and I did not assign a password. When I rebooted I was asked for a password. Without it I cannot access the hard drive. It is now connected as a slave drive and W7 cannot see the drive. Is there any way I can undo what is done short of a format.

Are you talking about a Login Password for the Built-in Administrator's account? If you have not set any password have you tried using a blank password to see if you can logon with that?

Where is your original user can you logon to that account still?

Have a look at the options if you type "reset password" in the main Help and Support program's Search Box.

Yes, it is the built-in admin password. I tried the blank, no go. No passwords have been used on this machine. Only the administrator Icon with my screen name appears on the screen. I am locked out at that point.

you can try searching for windows 7 linux password reset. Find one, burn the iso to a cd/dvd and reboot allowing your pc to boot from a cd/dvd.

Also try the word: password It used to be the default password and still may be.

Problem Solved. Thanks to linney, PRPhx and flyboytim for your quick responses. Password didn't work as a password.
The link flyboytim suggested didn't work for me although it is great program. The solution was my decision to reinstall W7. When I took out the disk I found the "Boot and Repair" disk. That let me restore it to an earlier date and all is well.
