I'm running XP HE, and am the only user running the system. There is no password required, and in general, all is well.

I had difficulty with Drive Image, and couldn't access the image files that I had generated to look them over in a file manager window in Drive Image -I got an error message. So, I went to PowerQuest's site, and located a page that discussed the error message. These file were in an "Image" folder on my D drive

Thge solution was to go into Safe Mode, log on as administrator, and find the files in Windows Explorer and select them. Then right click to bring up PROPERTIES>SECURITY and add my user name (which was left as "owner"), and then assign full rights to those files for "owner" also.

I did all of this, and yes, I could now access the Drive Image image files on D which were for my C: drive.

This all worked fine. But, unless I specifically selected any of the files in question, I have no righrs to them. And the next time I generate an image file, I'll have to do the same thing again.

Is there any way I can give myself full rights for anything and everything all the time, so that I don't have to go through this procedure anymore? It would seem that there must be a way to do this. Apparently in XP HE, there is no way to get logged on as administrator, except via safe mode. I'm perfectly willing to boot up into SAFE mode again, but I'd like to then change a setting to give me full rights for everything without having to do it individually all the time.

I'm no expert in the aspect of multiple users, but the approach in XP seems a bit dumb to me, especially since many XP HE machines are probably used only by a single user.

Back into Safe Mode and give your user name administrative rights (full control) for the whole drive (bring up the security tab for your D drive under its properties) and make sure the check box for sub folders to inherit these rights is checked. Windows will then spend a few minutes adjusting all the permissions on the files of your D drive.
