All I know is not to use an older release to administrate a newer IPO. Big, big, big mistake.
Not that I have ever done it and created ghost issues and corruptions that took months to fix.

You must use the corresponding Manager for each version.
Newer Managers are not backward compatible with older software.
Thats not funny, you should have a manager on your PC for each version.
You can do that by installing the manager, rename the folder it is installed in and then uninstall the management suite (actual files remain on disk, only the registry will be cleaned).
Then install another version, after installation you can use both managers.

I always use the latest mnanager on my laptop for all my sites, from 1.0 to 3 works fine as long as you try and stay aware of what features work with the various versions, but as KFlounders says, older version , newer software is asking for trouble.

The official advice from Tier 3, Tier 4 and Engineering is that we do not recommend using The latest versions of manager software to interface with older versions of IPNC and IP Office units.
The current versions of all software should be used with the appropriate manager application. Although you may be able to view older units with the latest manager version, it would not be supported that you make configuration changes and send the configs back to the units.
Therefore the manager application is not downward compatible.

But i always advise new users to apply to the recommendations of Avaya.

1) it is alwasys prefered to use the same version of manager as the switch, However this is not always practical.
personaly I use 1.4 for all V1.x switches & V2.1 for all V2.x systems.
Although it is possible to use V2.1 manager for V1x systems I find that the number of additional features increases the sise of the CFG file by a considerable amount with no benifit.
Using a V3.0 Manager on a V2 or V1 system will definitly cause problems as the programming for call coverage has changed.
