Hi,
If this isn't in the correct forum, I apolgize, but I am not sure which forum would be appropriate as I think I am dealing with an early version of exchange server (from windows 98).
I have a client who has a 4 PC local network (users access the internet via individual dial up) that was set up several years ago. The original computers were running Windows 98, and had Microsoft Schedule+ and Outlook Express, and the system was set up with 3 user post office boxes. The original setup allowed the users to share an office calendar and send messages/files from one user to the other. The directory structure of the post office was all copied over to the new computers a while ago (Dell pc's running Windows ME - the OS needs upgrading, but that's another story), and I have been struggling with trying to get them back to the same level of functionality that they had under the old system.
I can't find anywhere to administer the post office that is set up (I can't even change the name on the box of one of the users who is no longer with the company), so I am trying to find some way to either administer the existing setup, or alternatively install a free mail server/e-mail client which will allow the users to send messages and files as well as maintain a central office calendar.
I am farily knowledgable in general computer applications, but have never dealt much with mail servers or network collaboration of this sort. I am looking at using Thunderbird as a mail client (they still have outlook express), but am not sure how to set up a local server to allow the users to share mail over the network (they would still send regular mail out via the dial up connection if possible). Can anyone provide me with some guidance or a walkthru of setting something like this up?
Thanks,
Chris
