Can any one tell me how can i adjust (summer->winter time) and (winter->summer time)
in an automatic way ?

AIX 5.3

My /etc/environment is configure like this:

TZ=CUTOGDT,M3.5.0,M10.5.0

P.S.: And my country is Portugal !

Thank You !

Luis Martins.

Hi Luis. Portugal is the same as GMT I understand. If that's the case, our (UK) setting is:

GMT0BST,M3.5.0/02:00:00,M10.5.0/03:00:00

If that helps! Using setenv TZ 'the above' should enable the necessary adjustments.

you can also use:

Code:
chtz [i][b]timezone[/b][/i]

This changes the information in the /etc/environment file for you.

Regards,
Chuck

I made this configuration, but when i change the date of the AIX system to 29/10/2006 (Last sunday of October)and the
hout din't change to Winter time (less 1 hour).

Why ?

The time should change at 3:00 am. Did you change the time as well as the date? You should perhaps make the time something like 2:50 am so that the change can happen at 3:00 am.

Oh, and it may be that changing the TZ setting in /etc/environment requires a reboot?

Glad to help - and thanks for the star!

Changing TZ in /etc/environment requires a reboot so that all daemons (especially cron) which are started at boot time are aware of the new TZ value.

Note that TZ settings will not alter the running wall clock (which runs in CUT or GMT anyway), it just alters the way the time is visualized. You should see during winter a "GMT" and during summer a "BST" when showing the time with the date command (assuming you are using Ken's TZ value above).
