I have a report that spits out all the details in an address database I have used to teach myself a lot about access.

Question re address book report

Is there an expression I can place in the page header that will return the first surname that appears on that page? Can I then place a variation to that expresion next to it that will return the last surname that appears on that page?

ie. so it resembles the pages of a dictionary and makes flicking through to find an address quicker.

Cheers

Andrew: Have you tried just putting the Surname field in the Page Header and Page Footer - with most other systems this will do exactly what you want David C. Monks

DCM's response is right on. Have done this before myself and works like a charm. One additional hint, if you just want the surname without the corresponding label appearing with it - click on the label and delete it. Makes for a more professional look to your report.

These responses have been helpful but is it possible to have both start and last names in the page header though?????

Hi,

Make the field in the page footer invisible, then create another textbox in the header which picks up the text from the invisible field in the footer.

Havent actually tried it, but dont see any reason why this should not work.
