Existing System is S8400/G650, CM4
They now want upgrade to CM6 and they want SIP.

As far as I know, S8400 must be replaced with S8800, because S8400 is not supported in CM6.
What about SIP, do they need additional server for SIP?

Thanks,

The Curious

Yes. SES only runs in CM 5.2.1, or on CM6 it can co-exist with the Survivable Remote option (its called "BSM" then, for "Branch Session Manager")

for a replacement CM6 environment, you will need an S85XX Simplex server (which is now an HP DL360 G7 server), with SES.

You culd save them a lot of money by just upgrading to CM 5.2.1, which comes with SES as a co-resident application on the S8300D or any simplex platform.

Thanks Mitch,

So in CM6 I need two S8800 servers: one to replace S8400, and one for SIP.
I must say that I do not cry for this S8400, because it made a lot of problems to me...
By the way, I know that SES can be co-resident with CM5 on S8300, but what about CM5 S8500 simplex, and CM5 S8700 duplex ?

best regards,

The Curious

CM5 only with a simplex setup. ANY duplex setup has never supported SES. S83XX/S85XX support SES in simplex only.

The S8400 has its place, it's the lowest cost way to upgrade an old CSI system, where the customer doesn't want to replace all of the hardware (could be a large # of digital phones, for example), and might not want to migrate to an all IP system, but it does have its limits, and is being EOL'd soon or already has been.

Best bet would be to go MES - Single S8800 server with CM, AES, CMM, Session Manager/System Manger (for SIP). SES as a product has been replaced by System and Session managers.

You are running a G650. Do you have enough Media Resources (MEDPRO) to add SIP? If you have a TN2302 you probably don't. I wouldn't upgrade to the TN2602. You would probably be better off going to the G450. Depends on total number of users, cards, and other factors.

Avaya just released the Midsize Enterprise Server (MES) which is where you might want to go. It included everything you are going to need for SIP on one server. This is the new world of virtualization!

The only piece not there yet is the Session Border Controller which Avaya has slated for inclusion in the June timeframe.

As a side not MES was originally called Collaboration Server so you may here the name.

Duplication isn't available but since you are running on the S8400 I assume duplication is not a requirement. If you need survivability add a S8300D which runs CM and the Branch Session Manager (BSM).

Hi people,

Thanks to all of you. Especially to Jimbo, I did not expect that MEDPRO could be the problem.
