I have a friend who bought a Dell Poweredge Server a couple of years ago that he would like to sell to me. The motherboard has error correcting ram on it. I would like to add more ram, or replace the current ram with non-error correcting ram which is much less expensive. Can this be done? If it can, how do I find out what non-error correcting ram to buy?

thanks in advance

Ok the way you go about finding if you can add any more is this. Open the case and look on the motherboard. Find the braind name and model number and then go to the manufacturers site and look up that model. On there site they should have listed all the brand and models of memory(ram) that the board is compatible with. If you need help post the board name and model number on here and I will try and find the list for you.

You could go to crucial.com and enter your computer model and they will list all of the different memory that you can use.

Thanks for your responses. I checked the Dell and the Crucial sites. It looks like the only ram that is available for this motherboard is error correcting ram.
