Background info....
I have a few users that send large files to print (upwards to 800 megs). It takes quite awhile for things to go through. We have a basic network....everything is connected through a couple of 3com 10/100 hubs. The printer is shared out on the print server.

Problem.....
In order to help speed up printing, I recently purchased a switch (it is just a cheap 8 port Netgear switch).

This is the first switch that I have dealt with so I want to get your opinions on the way I am thinking about setting it up.

I'm thinking about connecting the print server, the printer, and the workstations that need the speed to the switch and use one of the ports for uplink to one of the hubs.

Will this give me the desired output?

The switch is automatically going to get you benifits by keeping data on different colision domains.

I would connect your file server (if you have one) to the switch, the printer server, printer, big printing workstations and try to put one hub in one port and the other hub in a different port of the switch. Counting on my fingers, you may run out of ports on the switch.

You have the right idea with the switch. In the future try to buy managed switches (they are more expensive) but they allow you to channel data flows better. New Zealand, a great place to visit.
