I am trying to add two new external phone lines to my Nortel Meridian 8x24 KSU. Is there any programming that can tell my ksu to recognize these two new phone lines? Any help will be appreciated Thanks in advanced!

From what I remember, you will need to specify if earth (ground) calling or loop calling is used and also if it's tone or pulse dialling in the "LINE DATA" part of configuration programming.

Also Loop guarded or unguarded may be listed.

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

Thanks for the info. I tried that and still no luck. Do you know the programming that makes the ksu see the new phone line. OR does the ksu need to be powered down in order for the new line to show up in the system?

You do not mention if you are using line pools or other configurations, so I will make a guess that you are using plain ordinary CO lines assigned to extensions.

Firebirdscrambler told you how to get the KSU to see the lines. To get a phone to see a line, you will go in to Configuration using your systems installer password, then (I also do not know what DR level your software is) look for A) Configuation, under that menu look for 2. Line access, then you will be asked for an extension, enter the phone extension you want to add the line(s) to, Then look for LINE ASSIGNMENT and scroll down the list, it will show you lines 01 to 08, and you can add or remove them from that extension. You will probably want them to be ring and appear so you can hear incoming calls and pick the line for outgoing calls.

Each line will add to your phone based on the type of phone (M7324, 7208, 7310, etc). Once done in programming, you Feature, *, ZERO and then touch each soft key narrow rectangle button and see what the key is. Feature * 0 plus a key touch will display on the phone what the key is assigned to do. That way you can find where the line button was assigned.

By default, I believe the standard setup is to assign only lines 1 and 2 to each extension, starting at the top, or top left, of the line/function buttons by the lcd display. Lines 3 to 8 have to be specifically added. Again, I assume you are not doing pools and such.

Keep in mind, I am guessing at a lot as to your system setup since you did not specify.

There's no programming to make the system "recognize" the new lines. If the lines are on the KSU, they're already there. If the new lines are on a trunk module, all lines on that module will be seen by the system whether you have dial tone on them or not. You'll just need to tell the system whether the lines are loop or ground start, whether they use tone or pulse dialing, and assign them to sets and/or line pools. If you assign them to sets and still have no dial tone recheck your wiring.

I checked my wiring by hooking my phone tester up to the punched down lines and i get a dial tone. But the KSU show 8 lines in the status update in the config menu. I removed a phone line that is no longer in use and placed one of the new lines where the old one was and it worked. But when I go and punch down new new line (line 9) it comes up with not in service. I followed the instructions in the install manual and it still doesn't work. Is there still something that I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Yes

First all lines go on the one amp cable using pins 1-8.
There is no way the phone you disconnect was even working to begin with as it was punched to the wrong cable.
Phones go on the other Amp cable using pins 1-24.
8X24

Second you can only fit 8 lines unless you add a 12X0 module, 4X0 line cards and an expansion card to fit more lines.

If you can find an installation manual it will have a wiring chart that shows how everything is pinned out.
