Hi,

My system is a PIII 450mhz with 128MB RAM, Windows ME (upgrade from W98). The problem is this.

I am accessing the net on an ISDN line using a Hayes Accura TA @64kbps. I want to use it at 128kbps and I have been advised by Hayes to try several things one of which is to go into Control Panel/Modems and make some changes to the properties of the and/or remove it and reinstall it using different settings. If I try to add a new modem and check the box to "choose from list", then the search of the database begins and this is the process hangs. Using Task Manager I shut this down and try again. This time it does not go into the Wizard but straight into the "searching for new hardware" screens.

Doing all of this has also caused a GPF - something like "rundll32 has caused a GPF in sysdm in . . . . "

I have re-installed Windows ME twice and searched MS Support but not luck so far.

Any ideas?

TIA

Try doing the same but boot in with Safe Mode. On boot hold the F8 key and select Save mode. This should allow you to make the changes without causing a nasty GPF.

Hope this helps!
