Adding Multiple Sessions to a Backup 1

I would like to know how I add the configuration changes needed to configure my Tivoli backup procedure for a single node to use multiple sessions.

I have read that I need to add:

inc filespaceA filespaceB
- to allow multiple query sessions

resourceutilization=10
- sets the number of sessions that will be used for file send

But where do I add these? To the dsm.opt file for the node?
In the Client Options Set for the server? won't that increase the number for all nodes?

Hi Keith

A bit more information would help to answer your question accurately.

1. What is the version of your TSM server (a.b.c.d) ?
2. What is the version of your TSM client (p.q.r.s) ?
3. What is the operating system of your TSM client ?
4. What is the relationship between your client filespaces and the underlying disk geometry? By this I mean is there a 1:1 mapping between spindles and filespaces, etc.

You have to add it to the client configuration file. If the client is windows -> dsm.opt, unix -> dsm.sys. resourceutilization doesn't mean number of sending sessions, it means max. number of processes on the client. Processes might be either sending data to TSM server (backing up) or marking backup candidates. I think the max. number of sending processes is 4 or 5, I'm not sure right now.

You should also consider setting "Maximum Mount Points Allowed" in node definition to allow multiple session restores ..
