I'm trying to setup home folders in AD and am running across the following problem:

I've added a folder "users" and placed it under the Winnt directory..
I've created a folder for JohnDoe (placed inside the "users" folder) and shared it as "JohnDoe$"
I've created the user via a template with home folder as: \\servername\users\johndoe$

The message i get is "The \\servername\users\johndoe$ home folder was not created because the network name cannot be found.

any help greatly appreciated :)

In this meathod of creating home directories, you should configure the profile to match the following format:

H: \\servername\johndoe$

not

H: \\servername\users\johndoe$

I tried that and i get "home folder cound not be created because network name cannot be found"

Eventhough you got that message, can you verify that the share exists?

Try to map a drive as the user to \\servername\johndoe$

If you can map this drive, try to login to the network. Now see if you have your home drive mapped.

Ignore the error message in the future. Joseph L. Poandl
