One of our users has a spreadsheet that she has to update once a week, when she has updated it she colours the cells in yellow so that she knows what has been updated. for some strange reason whenever she enters data into the cells below it they fill in the colour automatically even though she does not want this to happen. does anyone know how to stop it Regards

Paul

Paul,

The cells are probably formatted using Conditional Formatting.

From the menu, choose: Format - Conditional Formatting, and remove the formatting. Or, copy a cell that does NOT have the Conditional Formatting over top of those cells that do have the Conditional Formatting.

Hope this helps. Please advise as to how this works out.

Dale,
Thanks for your speedy reply, I have checked out the Conditional format theory but there is none set up for the spreadsheet also the strange thing is if you enter data in any of the next three rows then the colour is copied to the cell however, if it is entered into any cell below that then the colour does not copy. If it would help i can e-mail you a sample sheet for you to look at Regards

Paul,

Sure, email me the file. I'll be pleased to take a look.

This is an Excel 2K feature:

Under Tools/Options Edit tab there is a checkbox for "Extend list formats and formulas"

The factory setting is to have this box checked. Un-check the box to disable the feature.

Zathras,

It's interesting... I checked out your suggestion on Paul's file, but it did not work. :-(

Perhaps Paul will have better success than I.

A star for Zanthras I think Regards
