Adding a printer

I added a local printer and a network printer to my machine, but the icons do not appear in the printers folder. I can print to the local printer just fine through applications, but I get an error when printing to the network printer. All the printers even appear in the pop-down list in the print dialogue box in order to select which printer to print to.

Since I don't have the icons, I can't change the default printer or view the print queues. All the help files say I need to go to the printers folder and right-click properties on the icon. UHG!

I'm running on AMD 1.3GHz, 768G RAM, Maxtor 20G HD, Oxygen GVX1 graphics card on a Lantastic v8 peer-to-peer network.
