Hi All,

I have had to replace a Windows 2000 server with a Windows 2003 Web Edition server (my Windows 2000 server died).

When I try to add the Windows 2003 server to a domain I get the following error:

The specified user already exists.

I suspect that this is caused by the fact that the domain controller object for the old Windows 2000 server still exists within the AD list of domain controllers.
(I really want the new server to be called the same name as the old one).

When I try and delete the object from the AD list, I get the error:

DSA object cannot be deleted

Can someone please help? How can I get my Windows 2003 Server connected to the domain? It doesn't necessarily have to be a domain controller within the AD.

Regards,
Rab.

You will have to do a Metadata clean up. Go to technet and get KBA 216498, it is a step by step guide to removeingthat nonexistent server.
