We have one 2003 AD domain. We have an exchnage server which has a large database. We would like to build another exchange server for one of our remote sites and place it locally at that site and move the mailboxes from our existing exchange.
Is there a recommended procedure for adding an exchnage server to an existing organisation, and is there anything i need to consider.

Thanks in advance.

Just build the box and run the install. Exchange is pretty clever. If the Exchange server is going to end up in a remote site (via WAN) you willneed to create another site in the Exchaneg Organsation and make sure the Sites Definitations in the AD are correct.

HI MIKEBATTERS

thanks for that. i will be building the new exchnage at the same location as the existing one. We will have it working from the same location for now but will be move it in a couple of months. will there be a problem when we eventually move the box to the remote site?

having the Exchange servers in the same logical site when they are in different locations can cause excessive WAN traffic.

I would build as though it is in a different logical site from teh outset ready for when it is actually moved.

Hi, When you say 'site' do you mean a new administrative group.
Also i would like all my internet mail to still flow through my first exchnage server. Will i need to create any routing groups or connectors.

Thanks again.

You would look to create a new routing group during the install process.

All mail will flow through which ever server has teh SMTP Connector configured showing the Local Bridgehead server.

ok
ive just installed exchange 2003
I have installed it into the same adminstrative group as my existing one.
The routing group picks up my nbew exchnage as a member and the primary as the master.
I have moved a mailbox to my new exchnage which was fine. When i tried sending mail, both internally and external its just getting queued up and not going anywhere.
Anything i should look for?

i know that mail flow between servers in the same routing group should be both ways and administrators cannot chnage this.

Thanks.

I just installed Exchange 2003 into and existing Exchange 2003 setup. How come my exchange server does not show up in System manager? I can see our other Exchange servers in Virginia but no the one I just installed.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the Active Directory hasn't caught up or the installation has worked properly.

If you run up the system manager on the server you just installed can you see all the servers?

PS: You might want to start this a new thread completely.
