Hi,

I've been asked to join one of our sql servers to our new active directory domain. the sql server is running several third party apps that have user accounts set up locally to log on as a service
when i join the sql server to the domain will the local user accounts keep working or will i have to re-create the accounts in AD and re-permisssion them.

..i never had to do it this way round before normally when i'm setting up a forest, they all get joined before any apps are installed or databases commisioned but i was not employed when this was done...

the local accounts will stillwork because they are in the local SAM database....

as long as you dont make the server a DC you're fine.

once joined, you may be able to change the apps to run with domain user accounts, that way the apps will have the right to use the network.

thanks for the prompt response, my heart is no longer beating as fast and my stress levels are reducing...

one thing to note..

at first everything stuffed up.. until i realised that it had movedfrom one dns zone to another..

all was well once i added an alias to the dns space used by the non ad computers poining to the new record
