I am looking to add two 2003 servers to already existent 2000 domain. I have two servers with two different forest and domain, but have a trusted relationship between them. I want to add the new 2003 servers to one of the domains. Once I perform the adprep/forest and adprep/domainprep on the 2000 domain I want to add the 2003 servers to, Do I have to run any of these commands on the seperate trusted domain, or is it OK to only have to run these on the domain I am adding to?

I've researched this before and I wasn't able to find any "gotcha" that would require you to run adprep on both domains. Just run it on the domain you are upgrading.

Thanks for the info. I have one more question. Do I even have to run these commands to add these 2003 servers to the domain if I choose not to install AD on the 2003 servers and make them domain controllers. They will be a dedicated SQL data server and the application server?

I have a 2000 development server that is currently joined to the domain in question, and I did not install AD on that box and user can get to it fine.

I guess do the 2003 servers have to be domain controllers, or can I just manage my domain from the original 2000 box. (i.e. authentication is performed on the current 2000 domain controller, but once logged into the domain they can access the new 2003 servers)

What would be the best scenario.

They don't have to be domain controllers, and if they aren't, you don't need to worry about adprep at all. You will have no trouble accessing them or managing them. Just treat them as if they were running Win2000.
