My LAN is 172.16.x.x. I have a VPN connection to an external address that, when connected, is 172.19.x.x. When connected, however, because the VPN needs to be set to default gateway, other local Internet functionality is lost as Internet traffic is trying to use the VPN.

So, I need to add a route to tell VPN traffic to use one gateway but Internet traffic to use the normal default gateway, 172.26.2.1.

I know I need "route add" but the rest is a mystery. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You want to add a route for your LAN to go out the correct interface. This means you want to do something like this:

route add 172.16.0.0 Mask 255.255.0.0 172.16.1.10 (assuming this is your IP)

You may have to test a couple times to get it working the way you want. Don't use a -p (for persistent) until you get it right. Use route delete to remove anything you mess up.

It would help to tell you exactly what you need to do if you could copy the output of the route print command here while you are connected to the VPN, but you may want to change the IPs for obvious reasons.
