No matter what view option I choose, the Add/Remove Control Panel does not display many of the more recent programs I have installed. It also tells me such bogus things as the prgrams I use almost daily are "Used Rarely". Any suggestions for making the A/R CP current? At present, I can't remove installed programs because they don't appear in the control panel.

Many programs have their own uninstaller in the programs folder. This should be used in prefernce to Add/Remove. To fix your Control Panel Problem try some of these.

Check Group Policy (GpEdit.msc in Run Box).

Local Computer Policy/ User Configuration/ Administrative Templates/ Control Panel/ Add Remove Programs.

See if it is disabled.

There is also a Registry Setting you can check.

Some general things to try.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
