Hello,

This is my first server setup so I am a newbie. I am trying to add a laptop to our server and am having some problems. We have a small office environment and will be using the server to store common docs.

I took the following steps on the server to add the laptop:
Add User
Add Computer:

On the laptop, I set the Workgroup to point to the server.

When I go to "My Network Places" I still do not see the server.

Any help would be appreciated,
Mike

You don't want to point the workgroup to the server. The server and laptop should have the same name for the workgroup and it needs to be unique on the IP network. The reason that you can't see the server from the laptop is that the laptop thinks that the servers name is actually the workgroup name, so it will hide the server.

You are thinking about a domain setup, which you can not have unless you install active directory.
