Add new SCSI drive to Dell PowerEdge 2600, Win 2000 Server

A. Current System: Dell PowerEdge 2600, Win 2000 Server
B. SCSI Host Adapter - non-RAID version, integrated
C. Partitions: C: Windows 2000 Server
D: Data
E: CDROM
F: New Drive - to clone C: & D:

D: 1 Drive slot in use, 5 Drive slots available.

------------

1. Can anyone direct me to a website that has step by step procedures for adding a new drive to an existing Dell server?

I was told by Dell:

2. I will shutdown the server, then
3. Mount the new drive on to the drive carrier.

4. I insert the new drive into an open slot & lock back the drive catch until secure.

5. Then power up the server.
6. Wait until Windows 2000 Server desktop is ready

7. Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management.
8. At this point the new drive can be formatted.

9. I plan to clone (mirror) the existing Drive & Partitions to the new Drive. This way if the primary drive fails, this new Drive can be up and running and restore backup images to a third new Drive.

10. I expect to use V2i Protector Enterprise for cloning & making incremental backups.

11. Any other items to be aware of?

Best regards, Dave

Dell offer a good website support for their products based on the unit's service tag. This website is a unique site relative to the Service Tag of you Dell hardware. The following is a link to website area to enter your system's service tag:

From here you should find quite a bit on your server. I do some motherboard replacement work for Dell servers and this site has been an excellent reference to perform hardware modifications.

Goodluck.
