I have a SBS2k3
I have an email address of: abc123.com

I want to create a new email domain name, point the MX records to my IP address. New email name is: def456.com

Can I add a SECOND domain name to my Exhcange server and have email comming in with the new email addresses?

Dan

Yes, you should be able to do that. However, if you want to receive Internet email for that domain, you need to have your domain registered. In addition, you need to configure your Exchange 2003 for the second domain.

I'm assuming you're referring to adding it to your recipient policy. If that's the case, then, as RichardHuang said, yes.

You'll also need an MX record in external DNS.

yes. What I'm wanting is to change my email domain name from abc123.com to def456.com. I was told by Microsoft that in order for me to do this I would have to redo my SBS2k3. <ugh>. That just didn't sound right.

I have changed ISP and therefore have a new PPPoE account and the MX records for that new def456.com email are pointing to that address. I guess I just need to wait for it to progagate around the world before I start seeing email?

oh, in the user properties, Email Addresses tab, I added a new SMTP address with the new domain name and set it as Primary.

This should do the trick, no?

Well, you MUST have the domain name in at least on Recipient Policy, or Exchange will bounce the mail.

Don't open each account and add another address. Add the domain the the RP and let it hand out the addresses.

okay, last thing, Pat. In the user properties, Exchange Address tab, should I change the email address "Back" to the original address? or does that matter.

Once again THANK YOU. You are potentially saving my butt from a HUGE disaster.

Dan

wait! If I change the address in the Exchange Address tab, then wont my outbound mail have this address as the return address?

I need for all outbound mail to have the address of the new email domain. In essense I want to totally forget the old email domain even exsisted to us or to the outside world. Please tell me that I do not have to re-do an entire SBS server in order to accomplish this simple desired task.

Maybe I should consider making the new email domain a PoP3 account and totally forgetting about my Exchange server? Sure hate to have to do that but it would be a heck of a lot better to the company than to have to redo an entire server.

Your thoughts?

Danny

You shouldn't ever need to touch the addresses in the Exchange Addresses tab.

Your Recipient Policy MUST have the domain listed or it won't work. When you add the new domain to the Recipient Policy, it will automatically stamp the accounts with the new addresses.
