I have a Dell PowerEdge 2400 with a PERC controller. It has 3 drives in a RAID 5 configuration. I need to add a new drive (same size as the existing 3) to increase space. Last time I did this I seem to remember I couldn't add the drive to the existing array in Dell's Perc console. I ended up having to recreate the array (which wipes everything out), do a base install of NetWare and the tape backup software then do a full restore.

There has got to be a better way. Any suggestions?

Depends on the backplane of the PERC controller. Dell sells them two ways; all 5 drives on array1 or 2 drives on array1 and 3 drives on array2.

Sounds like you've got the 2+3, in which case you can only rebuild. There is a Dell Servers forum here on Tek-Tips, might try aking there.
