AD to NT mapped drive issue

I am currently troubleshooting this issue. our company (NT domain) merged with a new comany (AD). We are not in a mixed mode environment, we are still two completely seperate environments/domains. There are no trusts established yet.

I have a user that logs on to the AD domain with his AD credentials. All resources are available with no problems. He then tries to map a drive to a resource on the NT domain. When he is prompted for the credentials, he puts in his NT account dom/username and password. It hangs and eventually fails. He can log directly into the NT domain and access the resources fine, so it isn't a rights issue. However, we can gain access when he logs on to the AD and another user provides the NT account credentials for mapping the drive. The other user does not have elevated priveledges, the rights are the same as the original user's in the NT domain.

Whew! I hope that makes sense and I would really appreciate any feedback or suggestions for troubleshooting.

Thanks in advance,
Sarah

Establish trusts. Then sort out permissions - add his AD account to relevant groups on NT server.

It would be great if we could establish trusts, but we aren't allowed at this time. The parent company with the AD environment willnot allow yet. Any other thoughts?
