We are setting up sharepoint to be used by various groups (school districts) outside our domain. The user accounts are to be setup and controlled through active directory. What is the best way to limit these "outside" users from any access to our network (other servers, network browsing) except for the sharepoint site. I have looked at group policies and user rights but have not been able to formulate a conprehensive plan to keep them out of everything except sharepoint. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What kind of rights do they need to have?

Basically, you can create your users and from the file system side and restrict their rights to everything on the server EXCEPT for the web site using NTFS security. This isn't going to be a group policy solution, you need to lock down your files system.

Be sure to give them read access to the files under INETPUB as well as the files under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Regards,

Mark
