Hi all.

I have a 2003 domain comprising of three sites.
At site a I have two DC's one running exchange 2003.
at site b and c I have a dc talking back to site a via vpns.

I am trying to add a fifth dc to serve a new site but I am getting an error during DCPROMO.exe

Apparently my 2003 domain is not the right version for my new 2003 R2 server!!!

I have sourced some information on replmon.exe and used it to view the infomration on the dc's. I think I have found the problem which appears to be with the dc running exchange.

Whilst all my other dcs show five directory partitions my exchange dc shows only three, this I believe is what you would see in a 2000 domain!

This doesnt make any sense to me at all as the box has always been 2003.

I am considering raising the domain functionality level to 2003 from native but this is just me clutching at straws.

Does any one have any ideas on this?

Thanks

Vince

Sorry folks.

It appears that I actually cant run ADPREP from r2 2003 disk 1 I have to run it from disk 2

LOL.

Im running it now and will post the result.

Fingers crossed.

Yeah that done it.

Run ADPREP.EXE from R2 Disk 2 not Disk 1.

That does an extra step on /forestprep which is "upgrades schema to version 31"
