I'm just after some clarification on the licensing rules with Server 2003 and AD.

Say we have 2 DCs on site (one for redundancy) and 3 additional Server 2003 boxes for file server, file print etc and need access for 100 users. How many CALs do we need?

Do we purchase 100 CALs for the DC which authenticates them to the domain and then each member server can be accessed as required? Or do we need additional CALs on each member server for however many users may access it?

Also do you need another 100 CALS for the second DC?

As I understand it currently 100 CALS should cover us for everyone in an AD Domain environment?

Cheers,
Steve

If you have 100 clients, obtain 100 CAL's per seat and you're all set.

Just to clarify. Is that 100 per seat CALs for the DC only or 100 per seat for each individual server (i.e. member servers)?

You only need 100 CAL's per seat, period. Doesn't matter how many servers you have.
