Hello

I alreday had a look on all this dfs troubles in here, but i did not found a solution, so i hope someone know anything about this issue.

I installed on a windows 2000 server in a mixed domain with active directory an DFS AD Root share with some dfs links to different other servers...
everything works fine, also connecting to the share and the replication aso......

no the question:
we got a second domain from a new company and they wanna migrate our data thats why i made the share that a user whos workstation is migrated to the new domain would have access with his old user credentials to the old file structure..... ok i can make the map with the old user and pwd, but i only can connect to the dfs root, if i click on the supdirectory (dfs link) i get and error message network path not found..... and it takes a while until it brings the message, the last thing i try is to put SP 3 on my server and to change the siteawareness on the client .....

maybe someone else has another idea about this issue....

thanks in advance
joe

DFS works by redirecting the client to the share listed under the leaf. Sound like the clientconnecting from the other domain doesn't have netbios name resolution for the leaf node server.

thanks for your fast answer, this was not the problem, everything is reachable in all ways ....
the servicepack on the server did not bring the goal....
the client servicepack 4 installation is open,

does the client need to know the route to the linked server ? or does the request goes throught this server....

this server with the dfs hangs with 2 networkcards in the network on in ours and with the other in the other network and on the other side it is connected from the other domain client workstation....
it is interesting because in my domain its working fine and from the other side i get only in the linked directory the error message and it says dfs is offline ?? on the client

greetings joe

It sounds like the DNS in the other company's domain needs to have the entries for the computers that the dfs links are pointing to. Try adding your DNS server to their forwarders list on their DNS server.

client connects to dfs folder
dfs gives client share listed under leaf
client connects to share.

If the client can't connect directly to the share, then the client can't connect to it through dfs
