I am using CR 8.5 and have published reports on the web. The pages are setup in a way that if a person is viewing them for the first time and does not have CR installed, an activeX viewer is installed. This way they dont need the actual CR software.

For some reason this viewer is not being installed on the client machines.

Any ideas why this could be happening?

A couple of questions...

Are your users getting the prompt to install and it's not installing properly - or are they NOT getting the prompt?

Are your users working in a "Managed Desktop" environment?

If so, they may not have access to install non-standard plug-ins and applications if the users are not logged in to the PCs as a "Local System Administrator".

The users are not getting the prompt to install. All they see is a grey box and red "X" on the left top corner.

I am not sure what a Managed Desktop is, but they are home users using regular internet connection.

This is only happening to the new customers. The old customers who already installed the viewer are not having any problem.

Thanks,

Sounds like either the ActiveX plug-in is no longer on the server (corrupt file?), or the users are unable to access the plug-in.

Are these home users connecting through any firewalls or routers (or using anti-virus software) that blocks the download/install of ActiveX plug-ins?

Are they all running a current version on Internet Explorer that is set to accept cookies and plug-ins?

MJRBIM,

Thanks for all your help and guidance. I performed some testing on my end and found out that the ActiveX viewer was not being installed on the client machines. I registered the .dll's manually on a machine and the reports started working.

Seems like some of the Rules on our Corporate firewall were changed and were not allowing the .dll's to go through.

Thanks for all your help. Hope other people can benefit from this post.
