I am using Access 2000 and have XP on my machine. I am trying to add a combo box to a form and I get this error. I also get the error if I try to add a list box or if I try to build reports, forms, etc... with the Wizard. I have tried Registering the ActiveX Components, but that had no effect. Although, I may have not done the registering correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi:

I have never seen the error message you quote in the title of this thread.

Also, I have never heard of it being necessary to register the combo box or any of the other common controls in the toolbar, or even the ActiveX controls that ship with Access, such as the Calendar control. I would assume Windows does this when Office 2000 is installed.

Were you ever able to put controls on a form in this database with your present operating system and Office or Access configuration?

Before you repair or reinstall your Access2000 or Office2000, try opening a new database, put in a couple of tables, with some sample data (don't import anything from the db that doesn't work). Then design a simple form and see if in the new db you can place a combo box. If so, your original db is probably corrupt, and if the Compact/Repair action won't repair it, you may have to start over, importing the tables and queries and forms one by one into a new db until you find the offending object(s).

If you're not sure you handled making changes to your registry correctly, you may have to repair or reinstall your XP operating system, but I really don't know very much about the registry, except when I have to get into it, I follow instructions very carefully.

I sincerely hope this helps. Let us know...[/tt]

Thank you for your response. The db has worked without error on my computer (I also tested the db on a different system and it worked fine). I also tried starting over with a brand new db, to no avail. I can create a new database, design tables, queries, forms etc.... as long as I use the "Create in Design View Option." If I try to use a Wizard to do these things I get the error. I am wondering if perhaps the problem is related to the Access Wizards, because when adding a combo box to a form a Wizard is activated as well.

I tried repairing MS Office this morning, unfortunately that didn't work. Thanks again for your response.

I'm at a loss.

One comment, for what it's worth. You say, "...when adding a combo box to a form a Wizard is activated..." That's true only if you have turned on (highlighted) the wizard in the toolbar.

You say you tried to repair Office and it didn't work. Have you gone to the Microsoft update center, and downloaded and installed all the recommended Office updates? Could help...[/tt]
