Active Sync Problem

Hi,

I had a users sync his PPC 2003 client with his exchange account on his desktop today and when he did all his contacts and calendar disappeared. He has been using this for a while and there were no other signs of a problem. Anyone have any obvious things to check? I would also appreciate any pointers on how to recover these items from a backup.
